Nationalist Responses to Economic and Political Crises

CEU-ASN Conference, 2014

June 12-14, 2014

As a sequel to the 19th Annual World Convention in New York, the Association for the Study of Nationalities and the Nationalism Studies Program at Central European University are organizing the joint ASN conference in Europe in Budapest in June 2014. The focus of the conference will be on the Nationalist Responses to Economic and Political Crises in Central Europe, the Balkans, the former Soviet Union, the Middle East and Central Eurasia. Special attention will be given to themes discussing the relationship between economic crises, nationalism and politicized ethnicity. In addition, a number of panels will discuss other aspects of nationalism and ethnic conflict, focusing on Central Europe in particular.

The conference which will take place at the Central European University in Budapest will provide an opportunity for young scholars as well as senior scholars from Europe, North America, the FSU region and Central Asia to share their research findings.

The interdisciplinary conference will host more than 40 panels devoted to comparative perspectives on nationalism-related issues, empirical case studies as well as papers on theoretical approaches. Disciplines represented in the papers selected for presentation by the Conference Program Committee include political science, philosophy, history, anthropology, sociology, international relations, economics and political geography.

The final program of the conference is available here.
